Dubai - The start of the 2009 N Hemisphere trip

The trip to Dubai was arranged so that Lianne could visit her birthplace. Unfortunately Seren (the youngest) decided to be quite ill on the day she was due to fly out. After time in hospital all was OK except that Lianne et al ended up flying out several days later direct to England. However, this did not stop Helen and I enjoying the 40+ degrees!!

We had a couple of trips to the new Dubai Mall so as to take advantage of the air conditioning. As with much of Dubai it has the biggest of a lot of things. There are the waterfalls which are 3 -4 floors in height with lifesize divers.

There is the aqarium where even the fish seem larger than those you see in the sea.....

Then there are the fountains that are over 1 Km in length with 5 of these "rings"...

and of course all overlooked by the tallest building in the world (due for completion Sept '09).

  2. Full of admiration not only that the annex was finally erected but also that you find time to write. Meanwhile I hope that this is the best way to communicate with you. Just in case all goes into cyber space I shall also email Helen.

You can feel some satisfaction in missing out on some cold Canberra weather. Yesterday was sunny so our bike ride around Lake Burley Griffin was very pleasant. Other Weetangera news is that 23 Darmody Street is substatially demolished. It looks to be slow work possibly done by the owners. Yes I do venture into the street but Myles resists.
Impressed with the Dubai photos. How much did the Hallings invest in shopping while escaping the heat!! Hopefully Serena is faring really well and that you cannow allenjoy your holiday to the fullest
